Basic Admissions Information

For specific admissions requirements, contact the department using the information above.

Admissions Term Fall quarter admission only.
GRE GRE general test required.
GRE Subject Test Applicants to the Ocean Biosciences Program only should take one GRE subject test of their choice. All other applicants need not submit a subject test.
TOEFL or IELTS Exam The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is required for international applicants whose native language is not English and who have not studied full-time for one uninterruped year at a university-level institution in a country where English is the official language.
Letters of Recommendation 3; no more than 5 accepted. UCSD online letter of recommendation template is recommended over paper letters.
Statement of Purpose Requirements

1 to 2 pages typed, single spaced 10 point font (2500 word limit)

Specific Program Requirements Applicants to the Ocean Biosciences Program should take one GRE subject test of their choice. All other applicants need not submit a subject test. Earth Sciences BS/MS applications ONLY: Your application will NOT be considered unless a Pre-Application has been approved by Earth Sciences. No pre-application is required for Ph.D. applicants.
